June is recognized as Employee Wellness Month. Considering how much time individuals spend in their workplace over a lifetime, we think employee wellness should be EVERY month.

According to Gallup, an organization committed to enhancing workplace well-being and fostering environments where employees can thrive, employers that care about the health and well-being of their employees see measurable benefits, like higher productivity, profitability and lower turnover.

Not only that, but there is a close link between work and an individual’s health and well-being.

So, what does employee wellness look like in action?

  1. Building Positive Relationships: Encouraging strong social bonds among employees can enhance resilience. Social support is crucial for coping with stress and adversity.
  2. Providing Mental Health Resources: Offering access to mental health services and resources promotes well-being. The University of Chicago found that for every $1 invested in targeted mental health actions brings a return of $4 in benefits realized through decreased absenteeism, improved productivity, and reductions in workers’ compensation claims.
  3. Promoting Work-Life Balance: Supporting work-life balance through flexible scheduling and clear boundaries can reduce stress and burnout. We are human-beings, not human-doings and balance is incredibly important to wellness.
  4. Encouraging Mindfulness and Stress Management: Introducing mindfulness programs or stress management workshops helps employees develop coping skills. Studies suggest that mindfulness practices improve resilience and reduce psychological distress.
  5. Offering Training and Development Opportunities: Providing opportunities for skill development and career advancement builds confidence and resilience. Forbes emphasizes that learning and growth opportunities are critical for employee well-being
