The Spark Series: Igniting Compassionate Leadership to Retain the Next Generation

The Spark Series is a four-part leadership development training designed to equip managers with the mindset, skills, and habits needed to support, inspire, and retain today’s workforce, especially the younger generation who expect workplaces rooted in purpose, compassion, and connection. Each training session builds on the last, giving leaders tools to strengthen resilience, deepen staff purpose, and create cultures where people feel seen, supported, and motivated to stay.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand how stress and trauma affect workers, particularly younger employees, and how this impacts organizational performance and retention
  • Learn practical strategies for building resilience across teams, including gratitude practices, supportive leadership behaviors, and habits that keep employees grounded and engaged

Racial Trauma and Healing

This training includes interactive activities and engaging conversations around race-based traumatic stress (RBTS). Participants will be able to define RBTS and name current and historical examples, recognize the impacts, and learn about trauma-informed interventions and local resources available to address RBTS.

Parents and Teachers: Partnering to Help Your Child Succeed

This interactive workshop helps parents and caregivers understand the critical role they play in their child’s education. It includes practical ways to actively partner with teachers to help children flourish, including making the most of parent/teacher conferences.

Creating Trauma-Informed Residential Care Agencies

In partnership with the Department of Community Based Services, Seven Counties’ Bellewood and Brooklawn, and St. Joseph Children’s Home, Bounce has created a trauma-informed care framework for agencies to use as their day-to-day milieu with their clients. In addition to our foundational Bounce trainings, this includes four additional training modules that directly addresses the needs and goals of agencies related to their QRTP status and their continued journeys to become trauma-informed providers.

These four modules include:

  • Trauma-Informed De-Escalation
  • Trauma-Informed Treatment Planning
  • Trauma-Informed Progress Notes

Building On Your Child’s Strengths: What Parents Can Do

Too often, parents focus on the problems and challenges their children face. This interactive workshop is designed to help parents and caregivers identify the strengths their child possesses and to build on those assets to help them grow up successfully. The training uses the age-specific developmental assets from the Search Institute and incorporates “homework” to encourage parents to put the learning into action.

Supporting Youth in Building Resiliency & Healthy Coping Skills

This training is designed to help youth-serving professionals understand the relationship between trauma, brain development, and substance use in adolescents. Participants will gain strategies for building resilience in youth, tools for having conversations about substance use, and activities that create opportunities for positive childhood experiences.

Objectives:

  • Define positive childhood experiences (PCEs) and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs).
  • Describe the relationship between PCEs, ACES, and substance use, as well as their impact on youth.
  • Identify risk factors and protective factors pertaining to ACEs and substance use in youth.
  • Describe and model scientific and evidence-based strategies for building resilience in youth.

Spiritual First Aid

The Bounce Coalition offers Spiritual First Aid to strengthen community capacity, provide new resources to build resilience, and equip community members with the tools to respond in a trauma-informed way.
Designed for faith and community groups, this training teaches frontline peer-to-peer spiritual and emotional care and trauma-informed best practices through its step-by-step BLESS CPR helping framework. Participants will receive hands-on training, a workbook, and a field guide to better support children, adolescents, and adults in their communities.

This training can be done in one day (8 hours) or two (4-hour) days.

Objectives:

  • Learn about the role of community and faith groups in building resilience
  • Practice the BLESS CPR framework to address acute distress and unmet needs.
  • Provide early prevention for those at risk of emotional and spiritual crisis.

Fostering Youth-Led Dialogue Structures

This two-part training for adult-guides and youth-faciliators teaches how to implement youth-led dialogue structures such as Teen Talks, inspired by the work of our partners at Sowing Seed with Faith. If you are interested in creating spaces for youth, this training is for you!

Adult Guide Training Objectives:

  • Describe the purpose and values of youth-led dialogue
  • Clarify the adult role before, during, and after Teen Talks
  • Support emotional safety without taking over youth leadership
  • Respond appropriately to challenging moments and disclosures
  • Practice coaching youth facilitators using strength-based approaches
  • Understand how to modify Teen Talks for youth organization/population

Youth Facilitator Training Objectives:

  • Understand what a safe youth-centered space is.
  • Facilitate check-ins, icebreakers, guided questions, and debrief.
  • Respond to conflict during sessions.
  • Build your own session agendas.

De-Escalation 101

De-escalation Strategies 101 provides an introduction for adults working with youth on the principles of deescalation, SAMHSA’s 6 Principles of a Trauma Informed Approach, Brain research behind adult and child relationships, the 4 C’s of Calming, effective strategies for disruptive behavior, importance of debriefing, and includes a case scenario.

Objectives:

  • Introduce adults working with youth the core principles and purpose of de-escalation
  • Build awareness of how environment, communication, and adult behavior influence escalation cycles
  • Identify and explain the six principles of a trauma-informed approach
  • Explore how stress, threat, and emotional dysregulation affect the developing brain
  • Learn and apply the four C’s
  • Apply concepts in a realistic scenario

Children with Disabilities & Trauma

This training introduces the variety of trauma that a child with a disability may experience. It also explores the different ways that family members are impacted by secondary trauma. After exploring the different types of trauma that impact the family, the training will offer resiliency strategies for both children and family members to overcome the trauma.

Objectives:

  • Build awareness of how trauma affects children with disabilities
  • Build awareness of how trauma that affects family members that live with a child with a disability
  • Gain and apply coping strategies for both children with disabilities and their family members

Bounce University: Train the Trainer Program

The purpose of Bounce University (Bounce U) is to equip individuals and organizations with the tools to administer the foundational trauma-informed training (Bounce 101 and 201) in their respective organizations/communities to sustain internal professional development. Completing the two-day Bounce University training is required to become a certified Bounce trainer.

  • Becoming a certified Bounce trainer means participants are able to provide this training within their organization.
  • Bounce trainers shall not accept any compensation for providing training services.
  • Only upon invitation and need may Bounce trainers be invited to provide training on behalf of the Coalition as paid contractors.

Objectives:

  • Participants will understand and see modeled the Foundational Bounce 101 & 201 training.
  • Participants will discuss facilitation techniques appropriate for administering Bounce University (Bounce 101 & 201) in their respective organizations.
  • Participants will demonstrate mastery of knowledge through mock presentations of 101 & 201 and a written assessment.
  • Participants will self-evaluate their presentations, evaluate peers, and receive feedback from Bounce Coalition Bounce University lead trainer.
  • Participants will leave Bounce University with a clear understanding of the purpose and goals of Bounce University and their responsibilities as a Bounce trainer within their organization.

Resilience Screening & Facilitated Dialogue

The one-hour documentary delves into the science of ACEs and the birth of a movement to treat and prevent toxic stress.

Resilience engages and motivates participants by:

  • Introducing the concepts behind the ACE studies and the life-long impact of exposure to multiple ACEs.
  • Discussing the impact of ACEs in participants’ work life and community.
  • Discussing the role participants can play in the lives of the people they serve, including supporting referrals to services in the community.

Bounce 301: Building a Trauma-Informed Organization

The focus of this training is to assist governing board members and the senior leadership team of an organization to become trauma-informed.

Training Objectives:

  • Learn what Positive and Adverse Childhood Experiences (PACEs) are, and how they impact individuals who receive or provide services within the organization
  • Learn how trauma and stress impacts individuals
  • Learn the relationship between the organization’s vision and mission with becoming trauma-informed using the six key trauma-informed principles for change
  • Learn how governing and policy making responsibilities are impacted by transforming into a trauma-informed organization

Bounce 201: Building Resilience – Adapting Well in Life

Bounce 201 is an interactive follow-up session that takes participants deeper into practical strategies for building resilience in themselves and others.

  • Understand how trauma from ACEs affects us holistically
  • Identify reactive behaviors when we experience stress
  • Acquire actionable, practical resilience-building skills

Bounce 101: Introduction to Trauma, Stress, & Resilience

People face many stressors that can have a life-long impact on their ability to thrive. Yet it is possible to foster resilience, equipping people with the tools to effectively respond to adversity and bounce back. This interactive workshop supports this goal by increasing understanding of the lifelong impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and building individual and organizational skills to nurture resilience. You will complete practical exercises designed to encourage trauma-informed approaches to serving your clients.

  • Define trauma and learn about the causes of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)
